Angel nodded to the bouncer as he shouldered his way into the club. Pumping through the crowd was a
song Angel recognized as Voodoo by Godsmack. It wasn’t the kind of thing he usually listened to, but
with the way his annoying childe-and-fellow-private-detective liked to play it at full blast throughout the
hotel they called home, he’d know it anywhere.
He didn’t really care what was playing; he wasn’t here for the music. It was just before the end of his boy’
s shift, and he wanted to watch a little before they went home.
But he wasn’t watching the exotically beautiful demon writhing on the prominent stage. No, his attention,
like half of the demon strip-club’s clientele, was on the oblivious human behind the bar.
The man was mixing drinks and innocently flirting with the various demon and human patrons, and
probably didn’t even notice that he had started to dance a little along with the music that was thumping
throughout the club.
But the customers noticed. Oh boy, did they notice.
Angel just grinned; at one time he would have been growling, his demon howling with jealousy over all
the lustful eyes looking at what was his. But his boy had a way of soothing the savage beast, so to
speak. Now he just glowed with pride at all the attention the boy got. Angel knew that no matter how
many lustful looks and propositions were directed his way, the bartender wouldn’t even notice.
The bartender looked up and caught Angel’s eye just then, and Angel drowned in those big chocolate
eyes and melted a little at the goofy grin sent his way.
Yeah, he had no reason to be jealous; Xander would be coming home with him tonight, just like every
other night.
