Tara, Riley and Dawn entered Xander’s hospital room quietly. Riley had a girl attached to each arm as
they approached the bed.

Both Angel and Joyce had warned them about Xander’s appearance, but the sight of his bruised and
battered body was still a shock.

“Oh Xander,” Tara whispered.

Dawn choked on a sob.

Riley felt like crying himself. Instead, he put an arm around each of the girls and pretended it was for
their comfort instead of his.

Tara stepped forward and brushed back a lock of Xander’s hair that had fallen forward over his face,
unconsciously mimicking Joyce’s actions from not long before.

Dawn straightened her shoulders, wiped at the tears running down her cheeks, and stepped up to
Xander’s bed on the side opposite Tara.

“He’s going to be okay,” the young girl said with conviction.

“Of course he is s-sweetie,” Tara said quietly but confidently.

“You better believe it, he knows better than to leave you to your own devices for too long. You get into
more trouble than he does,” Riley gently teased the young girl as he stepped up behind her.

Dawn half-heartedly elbowed Riley in the ribs.

Tara smiled at their antics.

“He r-really is going to b-be fine,” she assured them.

“Well, we better let the others have their turn,” Riley said.

Dawn leaned down and brushed a light kiss across her Xander’s forehead then turned to leave.

Tara copied her actions while adding a quiet prayer to her goddess for her friend’s protection.

Riley patted his sleeping friend gently on the shoulder and followed the girls out of the room.

Graham and Oz filed into Xander’s hospital room.

As neither was one to let their thoughts or emotions show outwardly, it was hard to tell by their subtle
changes in expression that they were both shocked at their friend’s appearance, but they were.

They moved to stand on either side of the young man’s bed.

“Is it the drugs or does he always sleep with his mouth open?” Oz asked casually, as if making
conversation.

“He always sleeps with his mouth open,” Graham answered automatically.

Oz smirked.

Graham’s eyes shot up when he realized his mistake. He eyed the diminutive man across from him,
catching the smirk.

“Oh, you’re good,” Graham said with an embarrassed chuckle.

“Sorry, couldn’t help myself,” Oz said simply.

“How’d you know?”

“Werewolf.”

Graham nodded, having already known that.

“Let me guess, you smelled him on me? Even after several days?”

Oz nodded.

Graham took that in stride, but his eyes widened when he remembered what other members of the
group had keen senses of smell.

Oz shook his head with a smile. “Vampire senses are good, but mine are better. Plus the hellmouth smell
covers it up a bit.”

Graham sighed in relief.

He looked back down at Xander and tried to assess the damage his friend had received.

“He’ll be okay,” Oz said quietly.

“He better be, I’m not sure any of them could survive without him.”

Oz inclined his head in agreement.

“It’s not serious,” Graham blurted out.

Oz raised an eyebrow.

“Me and Xander, it’s not serious. We’re not ‘together’ like that. It’s more like a friends-with-benefits kind
of thing.” Graham wasn’t really sure why he was explaining this to the young werewolf, but he felt the
need to.

“He’s not good enough for you?” Oz said with a slight growl.

“No, it’s not that. Xander is amazing. We tried the relationship thing for all of three dates and realized we
would rather be friends….who have sex,” Graham finished lamely.

Oz decided to let Graham off the hook, no matter how much fun it was to see the normally cool soldier
fumble around. “It’s cool. I’ve been there myself.”

It was Graham’s turn to raise an eyebrow.  “Oh?”

“I stopped in Sunnydale a time or two, we had fun. But he’s a really good friend and to make it more
would have screwed that up.”

Graham nodded, completely understanding. He felt much the same way. Xander had a real talent for
friendship and making people feel welcome and cared for. And as good as he was in bed, and oh boy
was he good, Graham knew that if he had to choose between sex with Xander and friendship with
Xander, friendship would win. Even though it would be really hard to give up the Xander-lovin’, as his
sometimes-lover called it. Especially the hip swivel thing, or the…..Graham lost himself for a moment in
very pleasant and hot memories.

Oz saw Graham’s eyes glaze over and knew the older man had slipped into a Xander-lovin’ induced fog.
He knew the feeling well.

Oz cleared his throat.

Graham shook himself out of his thoughts and gave the younger man a sheepish smile.

“Hey, did you teach him that hip swivel thingy?” Graham asked.

Oz snorted. “I wish, as far as I can tell, that just comes naturally.”

They both observed a moment of reverential silence for the move that induced so much pleasure.

“So, he ever call out Angel’s name when he was with you?”
